Equality before the law
The Foundation for Equality before the Law was founded at the commencement of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) process. Objectives of the foundation are to promote equality before the law. It is primarily aimed at combating the unilateral prosecution of former police force members involved in the conflict of the past.

Dedication
This work is dedicated to the men and woman of the South African Police, who during the conflict of the past served their country and its people with honour and distinction, especially those who were called upon to pay the highest toll.
NOTE:
This book was compiled at the request of the “Foundation for Equality Before the Law” for the purpose of giving the Truth and Reconciliation Commission a perspective into the abnormal situation with which the South African Police were faced.
It is not a detailed account of each and every incident as it occurred over the years, but rather an overview of the strategies and tactics, which gave rise to the warlike situation with which the authorities had to cope with. People should read it and then remember that there is always more than one version to an issue i.e. “mine”, “yours” and the “truth”. For those who are interested – the references as set out make interesting reading material.
